Babe's Chicken House

Babe's Chicken House is one of those "fun" restaurants.  They're carefully constructed to look like they are located in an old shed.  It's a Disney-esque shabby chic, with hand-painted signs things like "You can always tell a Texan... but not much" and other folksy sayings.

They have a number of locations in Texas, but the one in Frisco is part of the Frisco Heritage Museum, and the old-timey houses add to the ambiance of the restaurant.

Babe's is surprisingly gf-friendly.  Although they have no "menu" (everything is served family style), they were able to bring me a printed list of "food allergies and sensitivities."  For flour/gluten, there was a long list of what wasn't safe, and more importantly, a list of what was safe.  Although most of the condiments and dressings have gluten, the following are safe:

Mashed potatoes (without gravy)
Corn
Green Beans
Smoked Chicken
Catfish

So each person picks the meat they want (I chose smoked chicken) and then they bring the side dishes out family style.  The standard side dishes are the aforementioned potatoes, corn and green beans.  They also bring out salad, but the salad dressing is not safe.

My family is used to having to serve me first, so I took my helpings of side dishes before the others dug in.  All the food was delicious.  They do not have a gf dessert, but I am trying hard to lay off the sweets anyway, so that was just as well.  (Darn you, gluten free brownie at Subway!  You tempt me with your deliciousness.)
