GF in Henderson NV

My husband and I attended a corporate event at the fabulous Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa in Henderson, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas.  I am not a huge casino fan, but this was a fun place with shopping, restaurants, a movie theater, and incredible pool and gym facilities.  Green Valley Ranch is close enough to the Las Vegas Strip that you can get there by cab easily.

For the corporate event itself, I was very pleased that the dinner they were serving (no choices, everyone got the same meal) was already gluten free!  (Except, of course, the dinner rolls.)  Dessert was not gluten free, but they brought me a dish of berries, which was really nice of them.

Finding places to eat was pretty easy.  Turns out Henderson is a gluten free Mecca!  Who knew?

Inside the resort, I had lunch at FatBurger.  This is a fast food chain located in the resort's food court.  They did not have gluten free on the menu, but when I asked about a gluten free bun, they said they had them!  Yippee!  I watched them follow all the proper procedures -- bun came individually wrapped, and they did proper clean up on the work area to avoid cross contamination.  Joy of joys! The burger was great!

We had rented a car, so we ventured out the next morning for breakfast at Crepe Expectations.  What a fun place!  It is small, so expect a wait for a table, but it is totally worth it.  You order at the counter, then take your number to your table.  They will bring the food out to you.  The guy taking orders was a hoot.  We were laughing and having a good time as he bantered with us.

They can do any of their crepes gluten free, except carne asada.  They have both sweet and savory crepe fillings, and they prepare their gluten free crepes in a dedicated crepe pan.  I had berries and whipped cream.  My husband had The Monterey, which was scrambled egg, bacon, veggies, and pepper jack.  Both were delicious.

We had hoped to visit the gluten free bakery which is in the same complex, a couple doors down, but they didn't open until 10 am, and we had places to go and people to see, so we didn't get to do it, but how cool is it to have a gluten free bakery, and great restaurant with lots of GF options in the same strip mall?  Way cool.

We had a lovely visit to Red Rock Canyon, including a 2.6 mile hike to Ice Box Canyon to see a frozen waterfall.  That worked up an appetite for lunch.  After our hike we headed back to the resort where we had lunch at LYFE Kitchen, which is outside of the hotel in the shopping area adjacent to the resort.  GF options were clearly marked on the menu.  I had a grilled chicken and avocado sandwich on a gluten free bun.  Very tasty.  We were dining with some colleagues, and everyone enjoyed their meals.

I was well fed and pleasantly surprised by Henderson, Nevada.
